Setsuhi Shiraishi- Caligraphy
Setsuhi Shiraishi is a professional Calligrapher, pursuing the beauty of the lines and spaces that influence the viewer momentarily. She approaches calligraphy as a comprehensive art, engaging in multimedia collaborations while transmitting worlds of traditional practice. Her performances with live music have attracted many fans all over the world. She designed the concept of the new uniform for the 2014 FIFA World Cup Japan National Team, "Circle". With Shiseido Co., Ltd. for Clé de Peau Beauté, she was selected as "6 women", and works to transcend the frame, such as producing TRM for Panasonic and wall paintings for Oracle Japan Co., Ltd. She's performed at the Japan Pavilion certification event at Expo Milan and the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa. She was an invited artist at Abiko International Outdoor Art Exhibition Installation. Her work has received solo exhibitions in Paris, NY, SF, and JICC Embassy of Japan in the United States.
Toshi Makihara's performance utilizes traditional percussion with a variety of discovered sound media, everyday objects and toys. Through a rigorous, systematic, and practiced process of experimentation, Makihara seeks out sounds that have never been heard before, experimenting with touch, force, and speed, and always remaining aware of sound's relationship to the body. Makihara studied drums and percussion with Sabu Toyozumi, a renowned improvising percussionist in Tokyo. He has also studied butoh with dance master Kazuo Ohno and others.
