Title of Work: Kissing Friends
Choreographers: Lily Mello & Kali Petrizzo (Sheer Spectacle)
Performers: Sheer Spectacle
Music/Sound:
This work presents a poignant exploration of human connection. With three dancers and a vocal performer, it intertwines movement and music to evoke a sense of raw emotion and introspection. Against the backdrop of the vocalist’s sultry cover of Soft Cell's “Tainted Love”, the piece delves into themes of love, loss, and identity. An ambient track meets the live vocalist as audiences are transported to a realm where late-night heartbreak and existential ponderings collide. Through the lens of a fleeting night at a jazz club, the work invites viewers to contemplate the transient nature of existence. How does it feel when the light’s come up at the club? Who are you when that veil is lifted?
This is an excerpt of Sheer Spectacle’s full length work, Kissing Friends which premiered in Philadelphia Fringe’s Cannonball Festival in September 2023.
