About the event

Celebrating the release of The Light of the Universe is in Who by Spectral Forces, there will be a 4 act performance featuring avant-jawn afro-disaporic dance from 2023 Pew Fellow Vitche Boul-Ra, experimental rap from Ishtar Sr, and the free jazz group 52nd Street Planetary Ensemble. And of course, a performance from the debutantes themselves.

Spectral Forces

Alex Smith is your guide enmeshed in the parallel universes of Philadelphia. They are worlds brought to life and death by the rhythm section of Julius Masri (drums/Kamanche) and Pete Dennis (Bass/Ney). Each song, a different aspect of reality, brought close to the ear. Histories- personal, aspirational, erotic, and revolutionary are rotated for the listeners enjoyment of its prismatic refractions. Smith, Masri, and Dennis all hail from West Philadelphia, and became known to each other through their travels in metal, hip-hop, punk projects as well as noise and free jazz settings. Spectral Forces collapses each of these influences upon each other for a full length album of syncretic brilliance.
