About the event

The People's Music Supply presents: "Wintry Mix" (Swetha Narasimhan/Boldt Fog)

$10 to $20, No One Turned Away from Lack of Funds

Join  us in the cozy confines of the Studio 34 Lounge for a provocative  musical pairing that's guaranteed to be more enjoyable than a shower of  freezing rain. Opening the concert with an inexhaustible fountain of melody is the violinist Swetha Narasimhan, performing music of the Carnatic (South Indian) traditions. In the second half of the program, the unique chamber trio Boldt Fog will unleash its shambolic sound-spasms upon your woefully unprepared ears.

Swetha Narasimhan started  learning violin at the age of 6 from Dr. Narayan Raman in Indianapolis,  USA. Later, she was taught by several violinists, including Shri. Purna  Chander Rao, Trichy Shri. Sathyamurthy, and Smt. Lalgudi Vijayalakshmi.  She is currently learning from Smt. Gowri Ramakrishnan. Swetha has  participated in several music festivals and won first prizes in  competitions in CMANA Great Composer’s Day and the Cleveland Thyagaraja  Aradhana. She has accompanied many major Carnatic artists in and around  New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

Swetha will be accompanied on mridangam by Navneeth Gopinath.

Boldt Fog is an experimental free improvised music trio based in Philadelphia. It  is deft mountaineering, a meeting at the summit of interiors. A trio  which reaches through the billows to give offerings. In the space is  Toshi Makihara (percussionist), Carlos Santiago (violinist), and Aaron  Pond (hornist). The music, the outflowing and in-passing, is of the  moment, non-idiomatic. But rest assured there is chroma; there is bile,  there is balance, there is a power greater than ourselves. Stronger than  itself?
