GOD’S WORK- secret location

The notorious 1937 Nazi propaganda exhibition Entartete Kunst – Degenerate Art – sought to mock and condemn modernist, expressionist, and non-conformist artists by making an example of their work; the Third Reich seized over 5,000 “degenerate” artworks from public and private collections and exhibited 650 of them as examples of decadence, weakness of character, mental disease, and racial impurity. Whatever didn’t sell was burned. These works were positioned in direct opposition to those deemed adequately German in their logical clarity and purity, exhibited in the concurrent Great German Art Exhibition. Some artists were represented in both shows.

In GOD’S WORK, Masina Frank and Ella Konefal turn these historic exhibitions over and over like crystals in the strange light of our present moment.
